Combining industrial and local heritage with housing, agricultural land and forest, the municipality of Santeny is contributing to the diversity of the many faces of the Greater Paris Metropolitan area. As its name suggests, the proposed site for the call for projects is part of the centre of the historic village of Santeny. The aim is to rebuild this village centre in order to create a real shared, mixed living space. This is a long-awaited, innovative and decidedly forward-looking project set against the backdrop of the site’s historic and natural heritage.

Urban context / existing buildings
The site is located in Santeny, a rural town with 3,700 residents, which spans an area of 1,000 hectares in the centre of the Briard plateau. The site incorporates several plots found in the southern part of the town centre, between Grande Rue and Rue du Réveillon, in an area neighboured by forest and wooded gardens.
The town is surrounded by fields and forests. It is comprised of an early 20th century village centre with one and two-storey semi-detached town houses lining the narrow streets, as well as a handful of noble buildings surrounded by sprawling gardens, and 19th century farm buildings. In the 1930s residential areas with detached houses were also created here for an urban population seeking the benefits of living in proximity to nature.
The town is served by just one bus line, line 12 of the Transdev Ile-de-France, which links the RER A to Boissy-Saint-Léger and Metro Line 8 at Créteil Préfecture. Less than 3 kilometres from the Ile-de-France ring road (RN104), Santeny is easily accessible from the Eastern Paris motorway network. To the northwest, RN19 links it directly to Créteil.
The town strives to create a dynamic village centre for Santeny. To help achieve this transformation, pedestrian links and relationships between districts will be developed, building on the restoration and conversion of old industrial buildings and unoccupied public buildings. They will be dedicated to community activities in the sectors of health, culture and youth organisations.
Prospects for innovation
Expected innovations in the fields of housing (innovation in architecture, energy and concerning uses), economic activity (linking development, employment and social links) and sustainable forms of mobility.
